THE HISTORY OF SEL
Sel is a family run company with a long and extensive history. The company was founded in 1973 by the couple Sigrún Jóhannsdóttir and Kristján Yngvason. Sel was originally a store that sold all kinds of items and fast food. Back then the store was on a small part of the ground floor at the hotel. At that time, the couple lived on a part of the second floor of the hotel with their children.

In 1988, a restaurant and a bar were added on the first floor of the building, and the store continued.
In 2000, the hotel was built and originally had 35 rooms. With the building of the hotel, the restaurant expanded and the store was moved to a new building, which is now kaffi sel (a souvenier shop).
In 2015, the hotel was expanded and the number of rooms increased to 58, the restaurant expanded, a meeting room was created and the lobby expanded. Today there are 54 rooms after some have been changed to get bigger and better rooms.
Today Ásdís Erla Jóhannesdóttir and Yngvi Ragnar Kristjánsson run sel. Yngvi Ragnar is the son of Sigrún and Kristján.
