SEL-HOTEL MÝVATAN


Sel is a family-run business with a long and rich history. The company was founded in 1973 by the married couple Sigrún Jóhannsdóttir and Kristján Yngvasyn.

Sel was originally a store that sold all kinds of things and a fast food place. The shop was then on a small part of the bottom floor of the hotel. At that time, the couple lived on the second floor of the building with their children.

At the beginning of 2022, we started brewing our own beer, Mývatn ale.

The original brewery is in Kaffi Sel, our cafeteria and souvenir shop, which is opposite the hotel.


In the winter of 2024, a new, more powerful brewery was installed nearby. The original devices continue to be used as development and experimental devices in Kaffi Sel.

We offer both our beers in cans and on tap.


Our signature beer is the unique Vindbelgur IPA brewed with geysir bread.

At Sel-Hótel Mývatn, you can find a wide selection of restaurants. Every day we offer the house specials menu, which includes, among other things:

  • Ice cream directly from the farm - Skútaís

Events And Halls

The hotel is exceptionally well located and well equipped to handle conferences, meetings and outings for larger and smaller groups, both in terms of hotel facilities and services.


We have a meeting room that seats 80 people and also two spacious dining halls, the larger one for 120 people and the smaller one for 60 people.
