Cross Country skiing at the highland at Lake Mývatn
Day 1. – April 9th
Pick up at the airport of Akureyri and a sightseeing tour around Lake Mývatn. Check in at Sel – Hótel Mývatn and welcoming meeting and details about the Cross country tour for the next 4 days.
Day 2. – April 10th
Drive into Bárðardalur valley to the farm of Svartárkot where the first day will start and from there a walk to Lake Mývatn along the open nature. It is about 20 km walk. Relaxing evening at the hotel with a good dinner.
Day 3. –April 11th
Morning drive to the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum where we will walk along the river to the waterfalls Selfoss, Dettifoss og Hafragilsfoss. It will be amasing walk in the area that was formed in the floods for about 6 thousands years ago and formed also the canyon and Ásbyrgi. After the walk we drive straight to the Mývatn Natruebaths for a relaxing bath. Dinner and good night sleep at the hotel.
Day 4. – April 12th
On this day you will be taken on a nice round in the desert of Hólasandur, walk to the area of Þeistareykir and then to the mountains, Lambafjöll and back to Hólasandur. On the way back we will visit the magnificent birdmuseum “Fuglasafn Sigurgeirs”and have a coffee and light refreshments. Evening sauna and hot tub at the hotel.
Day 5. – April 13th
Today we discover the amasing area of the vulcano at Krafla area. Krafla last errupted in the year 1984. It will be a nice walk in the beautiful landscape and along the mountains down to Lake Mývatn. After the walk it will be nice to visit the Mývatn Naturebaths again and relax in the warm water and sauna after long day. In the evening it will be a celebrating dinner for the magnificent walkers that managed the highland cross country tour at the highland at Lake Mývatn.
Day 6. – April 14th
Transfer to the ariport of Akureyri after breakfast for the fligth back.
Every day is around 20-30 km walk and there will be a snowmobile nearby if´t is needed both for safety and if it is needed to carry something for the particients. Everyone will carry their daily refreshment with their own luggage. It will also be possible to put some thiings on the snowmobile which is connected with the leader.
