Sel - Hotel Mývatn is the ideal location for experiencing the wonders of Lake Mývatn and the surrounding parts of northern Iceland.

Lake Mývatn is renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. The landscape is magnificent and the animal and bird
life especially rich.
Nature surprises you at every turn around Lake Mývatn, with craters and pseudo-craters, extensive lava fields (some from quite recent volcanic eruptions), and bizarre lava formations. Sulphur
springs, solfataras and fumaroles steam and burp in one of the biggest high temperature areas in the country.
The natural riches of Lake Mývatn have been harnessed to produce diatomite and to run the geothermal station at Krafla.
One of the largest colonies of breeding ducks in Iceland, indeed in the whole world, lives at Lake Mývatn. All of Iceland's breeding duck species can be found at at Lake Mývatn and in
the river Laxá.
Among those is the American Barrow’s Goldeneye, which breeds nowhere else in Europe.
Laxá river, Lake Mývatn's outlet, is rich in salmon and arctic char.
The area around Lake Mývatn and Laxá has been protected by special law in Iceland since 1974.
Welcome to Iceland and welcome to Lake Mývatn.
